house concerts are a way of merging our tribe with other tribes of traveling musicians in
hopes of expanding our music community.
The first house concert happened on my birthday in 2001, just a couple weeks after September 11.
I wasn't in the mood to celebrate my birthday, but I didn't feel like moping around by myself either.
So I invited some musician friends up for an informal jam at the cottage in Healdsburg where I was living back then.
People brought their guitars, djembes, cellos and even a full drum kit. We played on my porch under the stars.
It was so much fun we decided to make it a regular thing. These days, the house concert parties take place in the homes of my friends in Marin County. Every show is a chance not only to hear good music, but participate in the music making as well at the open mics that happen at every show. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to give it a try.
